In the last couple of years Amber Rose has started her own SlutWalk events and they’ve been very well received. One can’t be sure if it’s the feminist message, or the fact that she’s a famous face holding an event where girls come with their boobs hanging out – but nevertheless, they are popular and still continue to happen. The message of these walks is to not only bring awareness to the idea of slut shaming, but to take that word back. Words cannot hurt if you take away the negativity that surrounds them. It’s also a call to action to change the idea of rape culture.

Rape culture, the idea that women are to blame for being assaulted. Her clothes were too revealing. Therefore she was “asking for it.” Who in the world believes anyone would want to go through that sort of thing? For those who feel rape culture does not exist, please turn to the Brock Turner case and see how the victim was left by the wayside as the rapist got off with a slap on the wrist. So that’s one of the missions of these SlutWalks. For a woman like Amber Rose, it likely stemmed from her history.

Once a stripper, she’s no stranger to being called derogatory names but in reality – let’s be clear…Many women strip to pay their bills, not to be the object of affection for an audience. So to assume they are all “whores” on a pole, is an asinine thought. Having known a stripper or two in my day, I know they are mothers with mouths to feed, students with educations to pay for – they are people like you and me, only their line of work calls for more flexibility.

While Amber Rose did not start the concept of a SlutWalk, her name and participation in throwing them have pushed them into a wider known spectrum. She’s a feminist with a mission to take down misogynistic ideas placed on society.
